A 4-Day Slow Travel Itinerary Through the Lakes of Kumaon (Nainital, Bhimtal & Sattal)
Four unhurried days linking Nainital, Bhimtal, Sattal, and Naukuchiatal. No rushing between viewpoints, just water, woodsmoke, and long lunches.
The idea
Kumaon's lake district is compact, so you can slow down. This route keeps drives short, around an hour or less between stops, and leaves space for lazy afternoons.
Day 1: Nainital
Arrive by midday and settle in. Take a late-afternoon boat ride, then walk the lake's edge as the lights come on. Dine somewhere quiet rather than on the Mall.
Day 2: Naina Peak and onward to Bhimtal
Start early for Naina Peak or Tiffin Top. After breakfast, drive roughly 22 km to Bhimtal. Spend the afternoon beside the lake, with a boat ride to the island.
Day 3: Sattal and Naukuchiatal
Sattal's cluster of forested lakes is calm and good for a gentle walk. Naukuchiatal, a short drive from Bhimtal, is known for its quiet paddle boats. Pack a picnic.
